One habit that you might consider strange is that I keep the ticket stub for the last good movie that I saw in my wallet. I have been doing it for a while now (I would say more than 6-7 years or so). I guess it serves as a reminder of how often I go to the movies and how good/bad the movies have been lately. So for the last few weeks, I have been catching up on Best Picture nominees and have run into a slight conundrum. I usually throw out the last stub and replace it with a new movie. But it has been more difficult this time around since all of the movies lately that I have seen have been pretty good.
I finally saw the King’s Speech this weekend. Great movie. If it wins Best Picture, I would be fine with that outcome. I think the Social Network is a little better, but not by much. I also felt the relationship between Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush was too similar to the type of relationship that John Lone had with Peter O’Toole in The Last Emperor (what was strange about that movie was that it won Best Picture without being nominated for any of the acting awards). A great job on the costumes and cinematography too. It felt like London at that time (not that I necessarily know, but I imagine it was like that). Helena Bonham Carter also did a wonderful job.
